How Long Does Physical Healing Take? - Layers

One of the most common questions I get from clients when it comes to physical health is:
“How long will it take to fully heal this?”

The answer: It varies, and it often takes time.

And the reason for this is because healing happens in layers. From what I’ve experienced with physical ailments (both from healing others and healing myself), true recovery tends to unfold progressively, one layer at a time.

This happens because of how the body works, and how healing works with the body. Let me explain.

  • 1) Multiple parts are often affected.

When a condition forms and things start to go out of balance or weaken, it's rarely just one part of the body involved. Even if it looks simple on the surface, there are usually several components that together keep the issue in place.

For example, when I was working with a client who felt constantly cold internally, it initially seemed like a circulatory issue. But on a deeper level it was a combination of her heart, the thinness of her blood, her thyroid, and a few other parts. On the surface it looked like “one issue,” but in reality multiple areas required repair. And we could only address them one at a time. It was only after each part had been healed that her warmth returned fully.

Another reason multiple parts are affected is because of how the body overcompensates when something goes out of balance. When one area weakens, another part works harder to make up for it—creating more strain, more wear, and eventually another weakened area that also needs repair.

You can see this clearly with injuries. Someone may come in with difficulty or pain when walking. The initial issue might have started with the left knee. Over time the right knee compensates and becomes strained, then the hip adjusts to the imbalance, then the ankle begins to suffer, and so on. By the time the person seeks help, the “one issue” has turned into a chain reaction. Healing the whole system means repairing each of these parts, step by step. And the longer the condition has been present, the more layers usually develop.

  • 2) The body needs to repair itself part by part.

The second big reason healing happens in layers is because the body can only repair so much at once. When one layer is healed, the body enters repair mode. Only once that repair is complete and stable can the next layer be addressed. Trying to fix everything at the same time would overwhelm the system. Imagine trying to repair the heart, thyroid, and blood all at once—it’s simply too much for the body to handle.

Healing has to happen in stages. It’s like rebuilding a building: you can’t start working on the third floor before the second floor is stable. This is why symptoms often reduce gradually rather than disappearing instantly. One layer improves, then another, and another, until the entire system is restored.

Because of these factors, physical ailments and injuries usually require time and multiple sessions to heal. The number of sessions varies widely:

  • Some conditions I’ve seen resolve in 4 sessions.

  • Others have taken 10 sessions or more.

  • Some have cleared in as little as 2.

It depends on:

  • The severity of the condition

  • How long you’ve had it

  • How many parts are involved

  • Whether new injuries or compensations have developed

  • And other individual factors

No physical health condition can realistically be fully resolved in just one session. Healing takes time.

However…

It’s important to understand that things can be healed. I genuinely believe a lot—if not most—physical issues can be repaired (and I’m still experimenting and discovering more). Most importantly, you will see and feel the progression as each layer is completed. As we work through the layers, improvements come gradually until the body returns to balance, homeostasis, and full function.

In my experience, physical healing requires patience and perseverance. But it is possible.
